Pohoiki (Isaac Hale Beach Park)
Hawaiʻi's newest black sand beach, born in 2018 where lava met the sea.

The 2018 flow stopped just short of this county park, then ocean currents ground the fresh lava into a broad black sand beach almost overnight, landlocking the boat ramp behind it. Thermally warmed ponds pocket the new shoreline. Lifeguards staff the park; the open ocean here is powerful, so swim near them and heed the flags.
