Island of HawaiʻiKohala Coast & Waimea

Sights on the Kohala Coast

North of the resorts, old Kohala is the birthplace of Kamehameha I — green valleys, historic temples and paniolo ranch country.

Pololū Valley Lookout

The end-of-the-road view over Kohala's emerald cliff coastline.

Highway 270 dead-ends at a lookout over Pololū, first of the roadless windward valleys. The view alone justifies the drive from the resorts; a short, steep trail continues to the black-sand valley floor.
