Beaches on the Kona Coast

Kua Bay (Maniniʻōwali Beach)

Powder-white sand and turquoise water hidden behind a lava field.

Part of Kekaha Kai State Park north of the airport. Fine white sand and brilliant water; surf picks up in winter, and there's little shade — come early for parking and bring an umbrella.

Magic Sands (Laʻaloa Beach)

Kailua-Kona's in-town beach — sand that vanishes and returns with the swell.

High winter surf can strip the small beach to bare lava overnight, hence the name. Summer brings calm swimming; winter brings bodyboarders. Right on Aliʻi Drive with easy access.
