Captain Cook Monument Trail (Kaʻawaloa)
Steep 3.8-mile round trip down to Kealakekua Bay's best snorkeling.
<p>Drops about 1,300 feet through old lava and brush to the monument and the bay's pristine reef. The climb back out is hot and exposed — start early, carry more water than you think you need, and pack snorkel gear to make the descent worth it.</p>
