KauaʻiWest Side (Waimea & Kōkeʻe)

Sights on the West Side

The dry side holds the island's two monumental views — the canyon and the cliffs — stacked along one mountain road.

Waimea Canyon

The 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific' — ten miles of red-and-green gorge, 3,000 feet deep.

Waimea Canyon Drive climbs past a string of lookouts over the painted gorge, with Waipoʻo Falls threading the far wall. The main lookout delivers the postcard; Puʻu Hinahina adds a Niʻihau view. Out-of-state visitors pay entry and parking at the state park lookouts — one ticket covers Kōkeʻe too.

Kalalau & Puʻu o Kila Lookouts (Kōkeʻe)

Stand 4,000 feet above the Nā Pali's most sacred valley — when the clouds allow.

At the top of the mountain road in Kōkeʻe State Park, the rim lookouts drop away into Kalalau Valley's fluted green walls with the ocean beyond. Clouds pour in and out — if it's socked in, wait twenty minutes; mornings are clearest.
